Poster exhibition on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the beginning of the Korean War and 20th anniversary of German Reunification
From June 23-29, the Hanns-Seidel-Foundation Korea invited to a joint exhibition of pictures and posters with performances at the Topohaus Gallery in Insadong, Seoul.
One part of the exhibition was the poster exhibition “20 Years of German Unification” produced and sponsored by the Government-funded organisation devoted to the examination and reappraisal of the Communist dictatorship in East Germany, the federal ministry of foreign affairs and the Hertie Foundation.

60 Years of Korean War – International Symposium remembers the sad event
60 years ago, June 25, 1950, North Korea attacked the South of the country. For three years a murderous war waged with million deaths waged on the Peninsula, cementing for decades to come the division of the country. June 23, 2010, a joint conference of the 60th Anniversary of the Korean War Commemoration Committee as well as the Korean Institute for Defense Analysis (KIDA) remembered this with an international symposium.

Terreco Workshop and Excursion, June 16th – June 18th
Terreco Project, a socio-geological project with the cooperation of Beyreuth Universität in Germany and Kangwon National Univiersity in Korea, is a project for studying about better usage of land placing in the Punchbowl (Haean), Yanggu County in Gangwon Province. The project studies the soil, plants, and water in the area, and further integrates the natural science with social aspect such as economics.

Shaped by the traditional Korean societal order the participation of women in Korean politics only slowly increased. The recent local and regional elections on June 2nd confirmed this trend. Study trip of KINU-RCUP in May 2010
In cooperation with the Korea Institute for National Reunification (KINU), the National Youth Policy Institute (NYPI) and their umbrella organization, the Research Council on Unification Policy (RCUP), the Hanns-Seidel-Foundation Korea conducted a field study under the topic “20 years of German Reunification and the Lessons for Korean Unification” to Germany from May 1st-7th 2010. Promotion of Wildlife and Environmental Protection in Korean Wetlands – the World Wetlands Day and the sustainable development of the inner-Korean border area
In view of the celebration of the World Wetlands Day, the Korea Marine Environment Management Corporation (KOEM), an agency dedicated to managing and improving marine environment in South Korea, and the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization (GTO) organized a DMZ wetland tour on February 5, 2010. Foreign participants who were mostly connected with environmental protection and tourism organizations, academic and research institutions visited the Odu Mountain Unification Observatory, the Jangdan Peninsula and Chopyeongdo and had the chance to see up-close various migratory birds and water deers living in the said protected area.

Sustainable development in the inner-Korean border region and the cooperation of Upper Franconia in Germany and the Gangwon province – the example of the Terreco project
The sustainable develompent of the inner-Korean border area, in particular in the divided Gangwon province in the Eastern part of the border area, is the aim of the cooperation of Hanns-Seidel-Foundation Korea and Gangwon province. Therefore, Hanns-Seidel-Foundation initiated and promoted the partnership of the government of Upper Franconia (in Bavaria in Germany, at the former inner-German border) and Gangwon province. In January 2010, Dr. Bernhard Seliger, resident representative of Hanns-Seidel-Foundation Korea, could gain first-hand experience of the largest existing cooperation project of Upper Franconia and Gangwon province, the Terreco project, which aims to gain important knowledge on the agricultural and eco-system in the border area.

It was organized by the Committee of the five North Korean provinces and invited were office managers of each city and province of the committee. First visit of Hanns-Seidel-Foundation to the North Korean Special Economic Zone Rason
The representatives of Hanns-Seidel-Foundation Korea had the chance to travel to the Special Economic Zone Rason for first talks with its Bureau for Economic Cooperation. Rason consists of the two cities Rajin and Sonbong and became North Koreas first Special Economic Zone in 1993. The zone is part of the so called Golden Triangle where North Korea shares borders with China and Russia.

Hanns-Seidel-Foundation together with the Forestry Design and Technology Institute (FDTI) of the North Korean Ministry of Land and Enviroment Planning cooperate in projects of sustainable modernization of North Korean forestry. In November and December 2009 two employees of the FDTI from Pyongyang got a training in the Department of Forestry Müllrose, Forestry office Lieberose, overseen by Claus Seliger, office chief.
