Seminar 10
The 10th seminar within the framework of the EU-DPRK Trade Capacity Project took place on May 13th and 14th 2009 in Pyongyang. The lecturer of the seminar on “Cultivation, processing, distribution and trade with products of organic agricultre” was Mr. Lukas Baumgart. The seminar was attended by more than 30 participants.

Seminar 9
The ninths seminar of the EU-DPRK Trade Capacity Project, “Modern Sustainable Forest Management and Trade” could be successfully concluded during the trip of Hanns Seidel Foundation Korea to Pyongyang from May 03rd to May 16th, 2009. Thirty participants from ministries like Ministry of Land and Environment Protection (Forest Management Department, Central Forest Designing Institute, External Economic Cooperation Department) and the Ministry of Foreign Trade as well as researchers from the State Academy of Sciences (Forest Scientific and Information Center, Forest Management Institute, Forest Seed Cultivation Institute, Tree Organic Cultivation Institute, Unit of Science) took part in the two day seminar. Lecturer was Mr. Claus Ruediger Seliger.

Seminar 8
In the meantime the 8th seminar within the framework of the EU-DPRK Trade Capacity Project took place on March 11th and 12th 2009 in the Peoples Palace of Culture in Pyongyang. Mr. Harald Schicke, an alternative practitioner who has more than thirty years of experience with import of Korean ginseng was the lecturer. More than 70 participants attended the seminar. They were either experts for traditional Korean herbs or business men in the area of ginseng as well as members of staff of the Health and Foreign Trade Ministry.

Seminar 7
The seventh seminar within the EU-DPRK Trade Capacity Project which is organized with financial support from the EU by Hanns-Seidel-Foundation Korea took place on November 05/06th 2008 in Pyongyang. The seminars topic was “Custom Procedures in the EU” and Mr. Piet Timmermans, who is an expert on customs working at the airport in Brussels, Belgium, traveled with HSS staff to Pyongyang.
More than twenty participants from the North Korean General Customs Bureau, the University of National Economy and the Ministry of Foreign Trade joined the seminar to learn more about customs in the EU and relevant institution.
North Korea is one of only a few countries which are not members in the World Customs Union (WCU). That is why, the seminar was of great interest for all the participants. Hanns-Seidel-Foundation tries to cooperate with the North Korean Customs Bureau in order to apply for membership at WCU.

Seminar 6
On 12th/13th of August, 2008 the sixth seminar within the EU-DPRK Trade Capacity Project about “Textile trading with the EU” in the presence of Ms. Silvia Jungbauer occurred. Ms. Jungbauer works for the German textile and fashion association, which is the industry association of the German textile industry, since many years.There she leads the department for international relationships.The huge number of 75 attendants reflects the interest of North Korea to widen the textile industry. The participants came from different sections such as trading companies, ministries, universities and other institutions.

Seminar 5
On 11th/12th of August, 2008 the fifth seminar within the EU-DPRK Trade Capacity Project about “Food Safety Standards” in the presence of Dr. Markus Brunner occurred.Dr. Markus Brunner is a lawyer by training and a veterinary and had worked as a clerk for the customs- and veterinary inspection in the Netherlands and in Belgium for some years. Today, among other things, he arranges projects for the EU, e.g. the implementation of Food Safety Standards in Kosovo or Croatia. There have been 47 persons who participated the seminar. Most of them came from companies who produce food as well as from the ministry of foreign affairs and trade. Most of the attendants showed a lot of interest, especially if the topic dealt with their products Hanns Seidel Foundation accomplishes nine seminars in Pyongyang and three study trips to Europe, all within the EU-DPRK Trade Capacity Projects financed by the EU. The project lasts from 2006 to 2009.

The fourth seminar in Pyongyang took place in March 2007. Tobias Stern, a policy consultant at Ramboll Management in Berlin, was speaking about developing an export strategy, international trade and export promotion.

Seminar 3
The third seminar in Pyongyang in October 2006 dealt with the topic of European Business Organizations (EBOs) worldwide. The speaker, Mr. Niemela of European Business Organizations’ Global Network, introduced in four lectures plus case studies and practical tasks the general idea of European Business Organizations (Chambers of Commerce, European Business Associations) and their global network, the structure and design of business organizations, the financing of business organizations, the services and tasks of business organizations and the role of matchmaking events for businesses.

Seminar 2
The second seminar in Pyongyang took place in July 2006. The topic of this seminar was International Trade presented by a German lecturer Prof. Dr. Ralph M. Wrobel for Economics from the University of applied science in Zwickau, Germany. He was speaking about the developments and trends of international trade, its theories, global regimes institutions like the European Union and the World Trade Organization and about the Eastern Europe integration into world trade.

Seminar 1
In April 2006, the first seminar of the EU-DPRK trade capacity project was successfully concluded. Its theme was an introduction to international trade by a German expert of multinational management, Professor Johann Nagengast of Deggendorf University of Applied Sciences. The aim of the seminar was it to open the eyes of participants for the many prerequisites and preparations for international trade and the integration into the international division of labour. Topics included theoretical foundations of international business (like world trade policy), multinational companies as actors of international trade, entry modes of international business as well as human resource management in international business.
