  Terreco Workshop and Excursion, June 16th – June 18th
Terreco Project, a socio-geological project with the cooperation of Beyreuth Universität in Germany and Kangwon National Univiersity in Korea, is a project for studying about better usage of land placing in the Punchbowl (Haean), Yanggu County in Gangwon Province. The project studies the soil, plants, and water in the area, and further integrates the natural science with social aspect such as economics.

With the moderately cool weather, the Terreco workshop and excursion were done well in Gangwon. On June 16th, there was a workshop held with experts in water resource management, forestry, and agriculture, as well as Professor John Tenhunen and Professor Kang Shinkyu, who are leading the Terreco project in the conference room at the KCP Hotel in Yanggu County. There had been many issues talked about mainly the measures for soil erosion and turbid water in Soyang River, and also the highland agriculture related to the environmental-friendly agriculture.

From the 17th to 18th, there had been an excursion around northern part of the Gangwon region. On the 17th, there was an opportunity to see the actual works of the Terreco project in the morning, and the Peace Dam and the Korea Otter Center in Hwacheon County in the afternoon. Also in the evening there was an Oberfranken Night, which was provided by Hanns-Seidel Foundation. On the 18th, the excursion was led to the Yongneup Wetland in Yanggu, the Unification Obsevatory, and the DMZ Museum in Goseong.

As a supporter of the Terreco project Hanns-Seidel-Foundation Korea co-organised those events. Sustainable development in the inner-Korean border area, in particular in the Eastern part of the border region, is the aim of the cooperation of Hanns-Seidel-Foundation Korea and Gangwon province. Therefore, Hanns-Seidel-Foundation initiated the partnership of the government of Upper Franconia (in Bavaria at the former inner-German border) with Gangwon province.
