Hyun, In-taek, the minister of unifcation of Korea

This Tuesday, an exclusive audience consisting of Korean politicians, scholars and businessmen as well as German officials gathered at Grand Hilton Hotel’s ball room in Seoul to celebrate 20 years of German Unification and to talk about perspectives on Unification of Korea.
After the opening remarks by the director of Institute for Peace Affairs (IPA), Kyung-dae Hyun, and some introductory words by Dr. Bernhard Seliger, representative of the Hanns-Seidel-Foundation in Korea, Korean assemblymen Beom-gwan Lee and Young-sun Song talked about the significance of an active and thorough preparation of the Korean reunification as well as the possibility of learning from German Unification as a historic example. Minister of Unification In-taek Hyun focused his speech on the importance of developing the discourse between North and South Korea, as well as to use any chance of reconciliation. A talk about the background of German Reunification and its consequences was held by Christian Hegemer, head of the Institute for International Cooperation and Contact (IBZ) of Hanns-Seidel-Foundation, in which he also pointed out its relevance for Korea. Before the festive dinner started, Dr. Hans-Ulrich Seidt, German ambassador in Seoul, indicated the need of including third parties like China in the considerations about Korean unification and Jin Park, Chairman of the National Committee on Foreign Policy, Trade and Unification stressed the importance of not losing faith for unification.
