The cranes in Cheorwon
|
In occasion of the 10th World crane day the annual ceremony was held on March, 5, 2010 at Goseokjeong in Cheorwon. The event organised by the Korean crane protection association were attended by the persons from Cheorwon including Gang In-su, vice county chief and An Seung-yeol, the chairman of the county parliament as well as the persons from environmental groups such as Song Jae-ho, the head of the Korea wild animal and plant service association and Park Jong-hak, the director of Korea crane network. Noh Hyun-woo, the researcher of Hanns-Seidel-Foundation Korea participated in this event and discussed on further cooperation with members of the environmental groups and residents.
In Cheorwon well known for the largest habitat of cranes in Korea the number of cranes is now increasing for the efforts of the crane protection groups. The world crane day has been designated to encourage those protection groups and inspire people’s interest in cranes, one of endangered birds. This year the photos exhibition of various figures of cranes stayed in Cheorwon was held and attracted people’s attentions.
After the event some participants headed for the crane museum located in a restricted area for civilian. They had a chance to observe cranes and white-napped cranes wandering on the quiet field on the way. In the crane museum they could see many exhibits related to not only cranes also rare animals in Cheorwon area.
Hanns-Seidel-Foundation Korea is now trying to work together with Cheorwon on sustainable development and protection of rare species in the border area.
