The co-organizers of the event, Prof. Lee Kyu-Young, president of the Korean Society for Contemporary European Studies, and Prof. Lim Sang-Woo, director of the Sogang University Center for European Studies, highlighted the fact that this was the first interdisciplinary conference of such size in Korea. Given that this year is the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome, the conference provided an excellent opportunity for reflection of the EU, its way and its meaning for Korea. The workshop of Hanns Seidel Foundation brought outstanding experts to a discussion of political, economic and humanitarian aspects of the EU’s relation with North Korea. Among the participants of the conference were Ambassador Brian McDonald from the Delegation of the EU-Commission to the Republic of Korea as well as the German Ambassador, Dr. Norbert Baas.
